FAQs

I am a chess beginner, can I join?
Of course! We welcome all standards of chess players. Our members can help you set up your first board or challenge you to improve your skills.

Where is the Bournemouth Chess Club based?
At the Kinson Community Centre, for Monday afternoon chess and Tuesday evenings when we play B&DCL matches at home.

How many club teams play League Chess?
There are three teams playing in the Bournemouth & Dorset Chess League (B&DCL). Two graded teams playing in Division 2 and 3, and a team (dipping their toe in competitive chess) who are playing in the newly formed Bacchus League

Can I try out the club before deciding to join?
You are very welcome to come on a Monday afternoon during our friendly chess sessions, starting at 2pm, or come and watch a league match on a Tuesday evening from 6.30pm. We only ask that you send us a quick email to say you are coming and we can be ready to show you around.

What are the membership fees?
There is a yearly £50.00 club subscription. An additional £16.00 fee payable to join English Chess federation, should you play in one of the club teams.
